CA vs ACCA vs CFA vs CMA: Which Course Should You Choose After 12th?

An honest comparison from mentors who teach all four
6 July 2026 by

Commerce students face this fork right after boards. Here is the honest comparison we give in our counselling sessions.

CA — Chartered Accountancy

India’s most respected accounting qualification. Best for: audit, taxation, corporate finance in India. Duration: 4.5-5 years including articleship. Toughest of the four, highest respect in the Indian market.

ACCA — the global CA

13 papers, flexible exam windows, recognised in 180+ countries. Best for: careers with Big 4 and MNCs, or plans to work abroad. Class 12 + CA-inter students get generous exemptions.

CFA — the finance specialist

Three levels focused on investment analysis and portfolio management. Best for: equity research, investment banking, asset management. Requires graduation for full charter, but Level 1 can be attempted early.

CMA — the cost and strategy expert

CMA India suits manufacturing and cost-control roles; CMA USA is a fast (12-18 month) global management-accounting credential. Great value-for-time.

Our rule of thumb

Want practice in India? CA. Want global mobility in accounting? ACCA. Love markets and investing? CFA. Want a fast, focused credential? CMA. Still confused — that is literally what our free counselling session is for.
